6th Annual BCPS Student Independent Research Symposium

May 21, 2018   6:00 - 8:00 PM 

New Town High School Library

  1. Save the Date cards for will be provided by your instructor. Share these with family, friends, mentors, teachers, administrators.

  2. Student presenters should arrive at 5:30 p.m. for set up.  Refreshments available 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. for students and guests.

  3. Business attire is expected for student presenters.

  4. Guests will receive a Symposium program including names, schools, research topics, and abstracts for each student presenter. See programs from previous Symposiums on the front page of this wiki.

  5. Symposium begins with welcome remarks from Coordinator of Library Media Programs and presentation of certificates by instructors.

  6. Presenters from various high schools will be divided into 3-4 presentation groups/locations, depending upon number of presenters and their chosen presentation formats.  Presenters and guests will remain in the same presentation location for the duration of Symposium. 
    • IRC instructors may float between presentation locations in order to observe/assess their own students' presentations.

  7. Each student will have 15 minutes to present, plus 3 minutes for Q & A (subject to change based on number of presenters in each location).  Comment cards will be provided for audience members to share feedback with presenters.

  8. Projectors, sound speakers, and presentation remotes will provided. Instructors can bring presentation remotes from school if preferred.

  9. Students and their instructors must ensure that all presentation files (multimedia files, videos, music, etc.) are accessible from the Symposium location/inside the BCPS network, and that students or instructors have back-up files in case of technical difficulties. For example, presentation files may be uploaded to One Drive and also brought on a flash drive.

  10. Student presentations may be video-recorded and posted on the BCPS Student Researchers Wiki unless parent/guardian or student has opted out for video-recording.
